While some are enthralled with snowball fights and snowman building, some of us would prefer to get cozy by the fire with that special someone. It can be a challenge to make a traditional celebration something that fits your unique expression of love. So, in this blog series, we are taking a look at how off-season weddings, namely wintertime weddings, can be an opportunity to add a bit of unique flair to your special day. For this post, we will be drawing inspiration from the familiar feeling of cuddling up next to a cozy fire during the depth of a cold winter.
To begin, we have to ask ourselves what we enjoy so much about sitting by the fire with our loved one. For some of us, it may be about sharing a cup of peppermint tea that warms our hands through the mug containing it. It may be the smell of a wood-burning fireplace or the crackles and pops made by the embers. We could be drawn to the dancing gold colors in the hearth. Or maybe, it's the sensation of heavy eyelids invited by a lover's warm embrace.
Now think about your fiancee, what is it about them that makes them who they are? What attribute do you love the most about them? Do they have a kind and listening ear? Perhaps they are consistently looking for ways to comfort you? Maybe it goes beyond their attributes alone, it could be in the rituals you two have to prioritize each other. Whatever it is that makes your relationship what it is, let those characteristics be your inspiration for your wedding.
Ideally, your wedding venue would allow you to use some kind of fireplace that everyone can warm up to. Whether it is an outdoor fire pit or a fireplace inside, either one will work. During your cocktail hour, having a live musician like a guitarist or a string quartet to play soft, soothing music will create a relaxed mood. Provide furniture like armchairs and couches for the guests to sit on. This will give a homey feel to your cocktail hour and give your guests the opportunity to get close and comfortable with their special someone.
As your guests migrate from the cocktail hour to dinner, they will inevitably move away from the fireplace. To maintain the feeling of being close to the fire, give the guests candles to light in the fire and carry with them to their dinner table. Not only will this sustain the feeling of being close to the hearth, but it will be a way for your guests to engage in the wedding celebration. Use gold colors that reflect the warm hues and sensations that one experiences sitting next to the fireplace. providing a menu of hardy foods such as stews, soups, and red meats will accentuate the soothing feel and relaxed vibe of the evening.
Of course, the venue you choose plays a massive role in setting the mood for your wedding celebration. A venue like a barn or a lodge would provide a down-home, rustic feel that will contribute greatly to the ambiance of the evening. Camp Hosea is a venue that combines modern architecture with a perfect touch of rustic accents. Its aesthetic qualities make it great for weddings inspired by the feeling of getting cozy by the fire.
