Winter time is not what many consider to be a popular time of year to have a wedding. Why not? After all, it is the most wonderful time of the year! Planning your most wonderful day during the most wonderful time of the year might just be perfect for you. This week, we are continuing our series of posts about wedding planning in the winter season. In this post, we will be talking about how to adapt the North Pole aesthetic to be a fitting expression of your budding marriage.
The first step in adapting any aesthetic to fit a wedding celebration is brainstorming out the various elements of the aesthetic that stand out to you. One of the first things that comes to mind for many when thinking about the North Pole is Christmas presents wrapped in red paper and adorned with a gold bow. Another thing that comes to mind is Santa's elves scrambling about with bright smiles and pointy hats preparing gifts for children all over the world. It could be that your mind immediately jumps to red and white spiral candy canes lining the streets and silver Christmas bells ringing for the whole town to hear.
Now, set aside that brainstorm and think about who will be standing in front of you at the altar. What are they like? What do you love about them? Why are they the one that you are making these vows with? Do they always walk around with an air of joy and gratitude about them? Maybe they are always doing things to serve others and they do so with joy. Maybe they work tirelessly to create a safe and comforting environment for the ones they love. Whatever it is that makes them the spouse that they are to you, you will want to choose elements of the North Pole aesthetic that amplifies those characteristics.
If you want to emphasize this joy that your spouse to be carries with them, you could ask your guests to dress wearing outfits with red and white candy cane-esk accessories. These could be accent pieces such as socks, ties, pocket squares, or ascots for the gentlemen and jewelry and shoes for the ladies. The candy cane colors will bring a light-hearted and childlike feel to your special day. Also, allowing your guests to be a part of the wedding theme will help them connect with the experience and create a more intimate evening overall.
The North Pole theme is also great for those who plan to have lots of children attend their wedding. After all, who is Santa without children to whom to give presents to? What about Rudolf? Who is he without a sleigh loaded with presents for kids around the world? Maybe there is something about your spouse-to-be that brings back a kind of childlike joy in your life. Having lots of children in attendance will make your North Pole-themed wedding exude the childlike joy you find in your spouse-to-be. This aspect of the North Pole aesthetic would make your wedding, which is typically an event catered toward adults, much more family-oriented.
